Print To Order

how we stay indie, stay lean, and prioritise our authors.

On Demand

Print-on-demand is a method for printing books (and an assortment of other products!) at the time of purchase.

Historically, products would be created hundreds or thousands of units at a time. This reduced production costs but created the need for storage. And even with the production cost reduced, buying a thousand books at a time is not cheap.

We print-on-demand to print your book when an order is placed. We print one, ten, or one hundred copies per order, based on how many you order.

How it works

Here's how it works from when we set up a book, to when you receive a package in the mail.

The Set Up

We build out a print-ready formatted version of a book. This involves lots of boring back and forth and busy work you don't want to hear about - trust us, it's tedious and requires like twenty test-prints.

The Printers

When you click/tap (god we hope people still click on things) check out on a paperback or hardback, our website finds the closest and best book printer to your shipping address.

How does that work? Geo-stuff, API's, a few partner services. But we find one within a few minutes.

Distribution

Once the printer is selected, you'll receive a text message or email (depends on the printer) once the book(s) is manufactured and a shipping label is made.

From there it's like every other parcel, except we priortise freight shipping because the margins for the drivers are higher and they're quicker.
