Don't Look Blues
A humid night in 2005. A concert. A drive-through. A blue Ford wagon. Good luck, Jack.

I wondered if I could make the car... well, scary...
Initially I wrote the story to explore the geography of a local music venue after narrowly avoiding a speeding Ford pick up truck. Then, the following Halloween, I found myself drawn to explore this character's world. And a haunted McDonald's Drive Thru kind of presented itself one night.
I've always enjoyed writing critiques of certain types of men, and finding unique ways to scare this character was such a delight. I promise you'll never look at a blue Ford the same ever again.

Introduction
McNeill visitis horror formally for the first time here, and the flashes of that genre in his other work are present - a story electric and occasionally obscure. Not only based in his home town of Brisbane, the narratorial voice captures singular Australian tendencies and shoots the character through with associated flaws.
I'm reminded of McCarthy's short fiction and Stephen King's early novels. The kind of town instinct that accompanies the deeply familiar becoming haunted right alongside the mundane architecture of our lives.
